Program Overview

The Master of Science in Geriatric Nursing (MS-GN) at Dubai Medical University is a two-year graduate program designed to prepare registered nurses for advanced practice and leadership in the care of older adults. The program responds to the growing need for nurses with specialized expertise in healthy ageing, complex chronic conditions, functional decline, frailty, cognitive impairment, medication management, and coordinated person-centred care.

The curriculum integrates advanced health assessment, pathophysiology, clinical pharmacology, geriatric nursing theory, evidence-based practice, and research. Students complete 400 supervised clinical hours across two geriatric nursing practicum courses, enabling them to apply advanced clinical reasoning, collaborate with interprofessional teams, and support older adults and their families across diverse healthcare settings.

Research preparation is embedded throughout the program through advanced research methods, data management and analysis, and a master’s thesis. Graduates will be equipped to improve the quality and safety of geriatric care, lead practice-development and quality-improvement initiatives, contribute to healthcare policy and education, and advance nursing scholarship in the UAE and the wider region.
