30 June, 2026, The College of Pharmacy at Dubai Medical University (DMU) hosted a Faculty Development Seminar entitled “From Competence to Entrustment: Implementing Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) in Pharmacy Education” on 30 June 2026.
The seminar was presented by Prof. Sathvik Sridhar, Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at DMU. It offered an insightful overview of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) and their significance in competency-based pharmacy education. The discussion highlighted how EPAs convert knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes into observable activities that students can safely execute in real-world practice settings.
The seminar underscored the use of the AACP Core EPAs as a benchmark, while also adapting them to align with UAE competency expectations, DMU outcomes, and local training needs through a phased implementation strategy.
Participants engaged in an interactive session that fostered meaningful discussion on various topics including EPA curriculum mapping, entrustment-based assessment, assessor calibration, faculty and preceptor preparation, and the utilization of evidence from OSCEs, case-based learning, skills labs, logbooks, portfolios, and experiential training. Additionally, practical pilot areas for EPAs were identified, such as patient counseling, dispensing, medication history and reconciliation, documentation, medication safety, and care plan development.
