College of Medicine Students Shine at MedEngineers’26, Securing First Place in Healthcare Innovation Competition

The College of Medicine at Dubai Medical University proudly celebrates the outstanding participation of its students at MedEngineers’26, a leading interdisciplinary healthcare innovation event that brought together aspiring healthcare professionals, engineers, and innovators from across the UAE.

Representing the College of Medicine, Aena Maryam Khan and Yusra Idrees participated as members of different multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with students from diverse academic backgrounds to develop innovative solutions for real-world healthcare challenges. The event provided a dynamic platform for creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving while promoting innovation in healthcare.

A remarkable achievement was secured by Yusra Idrees and her team, who won First Place for their project, “Adaptive Reposition System to Reduce Pressure Injuries in Bedridden Patients.” The innovative solution focused on enhancing patient care and reducing the risk of pressure injuries among immobile patients, demonstrating the potential of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing critical healthcare needs.

The students’ participation and success reflect Dubai Medical University’s commitment to preparing future-ready healthcare professionals through innovation-driven education. The achievement is further supported by the university’s early integration of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology in Healthcare within the medical curriculum, providing students with exposure to emerging technologies, digital health, healthcare innovation, and problem-solving from the early years of their academic journey.

Under the mentorship  of Dr. Shifan Khanday, Associate Professor and Head of the AI & Smart Education Unit, the College of Medicine has actively promoted AI literacy, digital transformation, innovation challenges, and hackathon participation as part of its vision to equip students with the competencies required for the future of healthcare. These initiatives empower students to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom and contribute meaningfully to solving contemporary healthcare challenges.

The College of Medicine congratulates Aena Maryam Khan and Yusra Idrees for representing Dubai Medical University with distinction and extends special congratulations to Yusra Idrees and her team for securing First Place at MedEngineers’26. Their achievement exemplifies the university’s commitment to fostering innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and excellence in healthcare education
