Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Critical Care Clinical Pharmacist at the College of Pharmacy – Dubai Medical University (DMU), proudly represented the university at the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) LIVES 2025 Congress held in Munich between October 25-29, 2025.
As the Lead of Social Media and Digital Branding for the Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy Section of ESICM, Dr. El Ouweini played an active role in shaping the scientific and professional discourse of this prestigious international meeting.
During the congress, Dr. El Ouweini moderated two high-level debate sessions in the Pharmacotherapy Lounge.
The first session centered on the BLING III Trial, exploring how the adoption of continuous beta-lactam infusion in intensive care units (ICUs) requires balancing potential clinical benefits with practical challenges such as infusion pump availability, pharmacy preparation logistics, staff training, and workflow adjustments.
The discussion also highlighted the evolving role of ICU pharmacist prescribers in addressing workforce shortages, streamlining care, and leveraging pharmacotherapy expertise to enhance patient safety and operational efficiency through therapeutic drug monitoring and electronic prescribing systems.
In his capacity as part of the ESICM Social Media & Communication Team, Dr. El Ouweini collaborated with an international group of clinicians and scientists to bring the congress’s science, discussions, and innovations to the global critical care community. The team engaged actively in key scientific sessions, sharing insights and promoting conversations on how new research findings can translate into real-world clinical practice.
Additionally, Dr. El Ouweini moderated the Pharmacotherapy and Pharmacology Section poster abstract session, an engaging forum featuring eight critical care clinicians from Europe and Asia who presented their latest research on essential pharmacotherapy topics.
