On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, the IVPN Student Club at Dubai Medical University (DMU) hosted an inspiring international webinar in collaboration with the University of Nottingham, titled "Astropharmacy: The Science and Practice of Medication in Spaceflight." The event featured two speakers — Phil Williams Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Li Shean Toh , Assistant Professor — who shared fascinating insights into the unique challenges of providing pharmaceutical care during space missions.
The webinar sparked lively interest among pharmacy students from various universities, who tuned in to learn about how medications behave in zero gravity, how astronauts receive care during long-term missions, and the future role of pharmacists in space exploration. Beyond the science, the session encouraged students to think creatively and globally about their profession.
Bringing together academic expertise and student curiosity, this event is a testament to DMU’s dedication to delivering forward-thinking pharmacy education and building meaningful international partnerships that enrich the student learning experience.
Building on the success of the event, DMU students are now collaborating with Dr. Phil Williams and his team at the University of Nottingham to initiate a new research project focused on advancing the field of astropharmacy. This exciting development reflects DMU’s dedication to nurturing research opportunities, global collaboration, and innovation in pharmacy education.
