The College of Pharmacy at Dubai Medical University proudly participated in the 5th SEHA International Clinical Pharmacy Conference (SICPC 2025), held on September 26–27, 2025, at the Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers. The event brought together international experts and clinical pharmacy leaders to discuss cutting-edge advancements in pharmacotherapy, critical care, and patient-centered practices.
Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Critical Care Clinical Pharmacist, represented the College as an invited speaker. He delivered an engaging presentation titled “Optimizing Sedation Strategies in the ICU: Pharmacist-Driven Protocols”, during the Advances in Pharmacotherapy–Critical Care session. In his talk, Dr. El Ouweini highlighted the importance of evidence-based sedation practices, the clinical advantages of non-benzodiazepine agents, and the role of pharmacist-led sedation protocols in improving patient outcomes. He emphasized how clinical pharmacists can champion ICU liberation strategies, reduce delirium, and enhance recovery through multidisciplinary collaboration.
The College of Pharmacy had a strong presence at the conference, with faculty and pharmacy students attending sessions on antimicrobial stewardship, transplant pharmacotherapy, pediatrics, oncology, and digital health innovations. Their active participation provided an invaluable opportunity to engage with global leaders in clinical pharmacy and gain insights into the latest research and best practices.
By combining academic excellence with practical training, the College continues to empower its students and faculty to contribute meaningfully to improving patient care and healthcare systems across the region.
