July 9, 2026 – The College of Pharmacy at Dubai Medical University congratulates a multidisciplinary research team on the publication of their study in Pharmaceutics, a Q1-ranked scientific journal.

The project was led by Prof. Naglaa Shehab of the College of Pharmacy, in collaboration with Dr. Rania Shalaby of the College of Medicine, and undergraduate student researchers from the College of Pharmacy: Eslam Mahmoud Alrefaee, Fatimah Saad Altamimi, Hanaa Al-Shafea, and Naiba Khusrau.

The study evaluated the antihyperglycemic and antioxidant potential of two medicinal plants, Salacia reticulata and Caralluma tuberculata, as natural interventions for hyperglycemia. Effects were assessed in alloxan-induced diabetic female rats and benchmarked against metformin, a standard reference antidiabetic drug.

The findings underscore the therapeutic promise of these plant-based compounds and support continued phytochemical, pharmacological, and clinical research into their potential role in diabetes management.
