In recognition of World Cancer Day, February 4, 2026, the DMU IVPN Student Club at the College of Pharmacy, Dubai Medical University hosted an educational and awareness event highlighting the vital role of oncology pharmacists in patient care.
The DMU College of Pharmacy was honoured to welcome Dr. Nureen Wajid, Manager Oncology Clinical Pharmacist at American Hospital Dubai, as the guest speaker of the event.
Dr. Nureen delivered an insightful session on the role of oncology clinical pharmacists, emphasizing toxicity and side-effect monitoring, patient counselling and education, healthcare professional training, and the importance of safe practices such as Closed System Transfer Devices (CSTDs). She also discussed the impact of biosimilars in chemotherapy, multidisciplinary collaboration through tumor boards and clinical rounds, and how optimized protocols significantly improve patient outcomes.
The session was made even more engaging through an interactive Kahoot quiz, encouraging active participation and learning.
A major highlight of the event was the World Cancer Day poster competition, where students showcased their creativity, knowledge, and awareness through visually powerful and informative posters. The competition was highly exciting and competitive, with impressive ideas and strong messages about cancer awareness, prevention, and patient support. The judges for this poster were: Prof. Kishore Gnana Sam, Dr. Doaa Kamal, and Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini from the Department of Pharmacy Practice.
The College of Pharmacy congratulates the winning team — Joud Hourani, Aisha Abdulelah, Sarah Abdul Fattah, and Aya Mshlh — for their outstanding work and creativity on presenting the poster on Colorectal Cancer Early Detection.
