DMU College of Pharmacy Welcomes Its Newest Faculty Member: Dr. Naglaa Ashmawy

Dubai Medical University College of Pharmacy is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Naglaa Ashmawy, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy. Dr. Ashmawy brings with her a portfolio of academic, research, and leadership experience that is expected to contribute to advancing pharmacy education and research.

Dr. Ashmawy earned her Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Ain Shams University, Egypt, and has held previous academic and research positions at institutions in the UAE and Egypt. She previously served as Director of International Academic Programs and played a key role in Quality Assurance and Program evaluation.

A specialist in Natural Product Chemistry, Dr. Ashmawy’s research is focused on drug discovery from natural sources, with broad expertise in the extraction, isolation, and structural elucidation of secondary metabolites. She is highly skilled in advanced metabolomic profiling techniques such as HPLC, GC/MS, and LC/MS, and applies chemometric and multivariate analysis to gain insights into disease mechanisms and uncover novel therapeutic candidates.

At Dubai Medical University, Dr. Ashmawy is expected to lead the integration of Herbal, Complementary, and Alternative Medicine (CAM) into the curricula of the medical colleges through interprofessional education strategies. Her appointment aligns with the university’s vision to promote innovation and evidence-based practices in integrative medicine.

In addition to her academic responsibilities, Dr. Ashmawy will lead the development and innovation of the university’s Medicinal Garden and greenhouse, a key initiative aimed at supporting research, education, and community engagement in the field of herbal and integrative medicine. She will be responsible for managing research and academic activities related to the greenhouse, including the cultivation and study of medicinal plants, interdisciplinary research, and hands-on student training in natural products and traditional medicine.

Additionally, she will contribute to the university’s drug discovery research initiatives, particularly those involving AI-driven natural product research, and will work to foster strategic collaborations with international research centers and universities, expanding the university’s global research footprint.
With a strong track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, international conference presentations, and ongoing collaborative projects, Dr. Ashmawy’s appointment marks a significant step toward strengthening Dubai Medical University’s academic excellence and research leadership in pharmaceutical sciences.
