Dubai Medical University College of Pharmacy is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Bassam Atallah, Pharm.D., M.S., BCPS, FHFSA, FCCP, as Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, College of Pharmacy. Dr. Atallah brings with him a portfolio of academic, clinical, research, and leadership experience that has advanced pharmacy education and practice in the UAE and the region for over a decade.

Dr. Atallah has most recently served as a Senior Pharmacotherapy Specialist at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Clinical Associate Professor at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine where he contributed to some “Clinical firsts” in the UAE including the development of innovative pharmacist-led clinics. Prior to moving to the UAE, he served in the faculty of Clinical Pharmacy at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) in Riyadh. He has also served different roles as subject matter expert with the Department of Health Abu Dhabi and Ministry of Education Commission for Academic Accreditation. In addition to his contributions to many other academic institutions in the UAE and beyond, thus bringing a wealth of international, regional and local academic experience.

Dr Atallah received his PharmD from Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy in Virginia and completed an ASHP accredited post graduate residency at Winchester Medical Center in Virginia, USA. He was awarded the “Graduate of the Last Decade” award by his alma mater. Dr Atallah is a fellow of the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP). He has many publications and presentations at national and international conferences. He was awarded the 2021 ACCP Cardiology PRN international award. His research interests are in various aspects of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy with a focus on antithrombotic therapy, heart failure and hyperlipidemia. At Dubai Medical University, Dr. Atallah is expected to lead the experiential clinical education components of the PharmD and Master’s programs. This is in addition to contributing to curriculum development, didactic education and clinical faculty development. In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Atallah will lead the development of pharmacy clinical services at affiliated sites including at Dubai Medical University Hospital. His appointment will set the stage for future development of postgraduate training programs in clinical pharmacy at affiliated sites. With a strong track record of practice, teaching and research, Dr. Atallah appointment marks a significant step toward strengthening Dubai Medical University’s academic and clinical excellence and innovation in contemporary pharmacy education.
