The seminar, titled “Towards a Collaborative-Ready Healthcare Workforce: Designing a Longitudinal IPE/IPC Curriculum,” was attended by faculty members from all three DMU colleges — Pharmacy, Medicine, and Nursing.
Dr. El-Labbad emphasized the growing need for “collaborative-ready” healthcare professionals who can deliver safe, person-centered care through teamwork and effective communication. During the interactive session, participants explored how future healthcare providers can be equipped to work together across disciplines to improve patient outcomes. Dr. El-Labbad discussed models of interprofessional learning grounded in experiential, situated, and community-of-practice theories, and demonstrated how faculty roles must evolve from traditional lecturers to facilitators of collaborative learning.
Following the seminar, Dr. El-Labbad conducted a focused workshop with the DMU Interprofessional Education (IPE) Committee titled “Co-Designing a Longitudinal IPE/IPC Curriculum Blueprint: A Structured Approach Using Tyler’s Model.” This practical session guided committee members through a series of structured group tasks to design a university-wide IPE framework
By the end of the workshop, the DMU IPE Committee had drafted a clear roadmap for integrating interprofessional education across the longitudinal curriculum, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that all DMU graduates are prepared to work effectively in interprofessional healthcare teams.
