DMU College of Medicine Students Shine at WHX General Surgery Conference.

Dubai Medical University (DMU) proudly celebrates the outstanding participation of College of Medicine students at the prestigious WHX General Surgery Conference, where academic excellence, innovation, and research leadership were prominently showcased.

A total of 10 DMU medical students presented their research, reflecting the university’s strong commitment to student-led scholarly activity and evidence-based clinical learning. The presentations covered a diverse range of contemporary and clinically relevant topics, including:

  7. Spontaneous Congenital Transmesenteric Internal Hernia in an Adult Without Prior Abdominal Surgery: A Rare Cause of Acute Small Bowel Obstruction by Sana Ahmed, Laian Mohamad Hamod,Leen Ibrahim Sabbagh,Rokia Malahifci, Maryam Munzer Manzalgi.
  8. A Cross-Sectional Study on Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Toward GLP-1 Agonists in UAE Adults: Implications for Obesity and Diabetes Management by Sarah Ali Alyammahi

The student research projects were conducted under the academic supervision and mentorship of Dr. Shifan Khanday, Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, and Prof. Yousef El Tayeb, Dean of College of Medicine ,whose guidance played a key role in strengthening the scientific quality and clinical relevance of the work.

The scientific session was further distinguished by the leadership of Dr. Ali Khamas, who served as the Session Chair, facilitating scholarly discussions and providing expert insights during the presentations.

This achievement reflects DMU’s strategic focus on:

  • Encouraging innovation in surgery and digital health
  • Developing future clinician-scientists equipped to address emerging healthcare challenges
