The Career Guidance and Alumni Office at the College of Medicine was pleased to host an insightful session titled “From Medical Student to Researcher – Your Guide to Getting Started in Research” on 22 September 2026. The session was conducted by Dr. Jumanah Mohammed, College of Medicine alumna from the Class of 2025, as part of the Office’s ongoing efforts to strengthen alumni engagement and create meaningful opportunities for students to learn from the experiences and expertise of our graduates. The session provided students with a practical introduction to the world of medical research, highlighting how they can begin developing their research skills and interests early in their medical education. Dr. Jumanah covered key aspects of getting started in research, including identifying research interests, exploring research opportunities, understanding the research process, and taking the first steps towards participating in research projects. Students also gained valuable insights into developing essential research skills and building a strong academic and research profile alongside their medical studies. The session served as a valuable platform for students to better understand the role of research in medicine and explore how early involvement in research can contribute to their academic, professional, and future career development. Through the perspective of a recent alumna, students were also able to gain relatable insights into the transition from medical student to actively engaging in research and the importance of taking initiative early in their academic journey.
