Aena Khan, a second-year medical student at DMU, participated in the MOHAP Innovation Hackathon on March 18th, tackling the “Breast Cancer Screening & Diagnosis” challenge as part of a national initiative by the Ministry of Health and Prevention.
Working alongside a diverse team of students and professionals from institutions including Khalifa University, University of Sharjah, RAK Medical University, and NYU Abu Dhabi, Aena co-developed SOUND, Self-Operated Ultrasound Non-invasive Diagnostics, an AI-powered kiosk designed to make breast cancer screening more accessible, affordable, and private.
The kiosks guide users through a self-conducted breast ultrasound and provide instant, AI-generated preliminary results. Aena played a key leadership role in research, strategy, and pitching. SOUND stands as a promising innovation toward inclusive and early cancer detection across the UAE.
