September 26, 2026: Dubai Medical University (DMU) College of Pharmacy took part in the 6th SEHA International Clinical Conference in Abu Dhabi, with two faculty speakers and an award-winning student poster. Clinicians, researchers, and educators from across the region and beyond attended the conference to share advances in clinical practice.
Shaping the Next Generation of Clinical Pharmacists
Dr. Bassam Atallah, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, gave a talk titled “Competency-based Clinical Pharmacy Education: Preparing Future Practice Leaders.” He described how competency-based frameworks can close the gap between academic training and real-world practice. He also explained how they prepare graduates to take on leadership roles in patient-centered, interprofessional care.
When the First-Line Vasopressor Fails
Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Interim Program Director of the Master of Clinical Pharmacy (MPharm) program, spoke on “Refractory Septic Shock Management: When the First-Line Vasopressor Fails.” He reviewed evidence-based strategies for patients who do not respond adequately to first-line vasopressor therapy. These included adjunctive vasopressors, corticosteroids, and other rescue options. He also highlighted the role of the critical care pharmacist in optimizing therapy at the bedside.
MPharm Student Wins Second Place in Scientific Poster Competition Ms. Shaima Moustafa, a student in DMU’s Master of Clinical Pharmacy program, won second place in the conference’s scientific poster competition. Her poster was titled “Clinical Evaluation of Adverse Effects and Tolerability of ADHD Pharmacotherapy in the Paediatric Population.” The study looks at the safety profile and tolerability of ADHD medications in children, an area of growing clinical importance. It reflects the program’s focus on research that informs safer, more effective patient care.
