June 4, 2026 – Dubai Medical University (DMU) is pleased to announce the scholarly achievement of Dr. Naglaa Saad Ashmawy, Head of the Integrative Medicine Department and Assistant Dean for Quality & Accreditation, College of Pharmacy, who co-authored a book chapter with DMU alumna Ms. Jumana Haider Al-Anssari and collaborators from Ain Shams University, Egypt.
The chapter, titled “Aromatic and Essential Oil Plants in Physical and Mental Well-Being,” was published by Springer Nature in the book Plant-Based Solutions for Sustainable Agriculture and Healthcare as part of the Sustainability Sciences in Asia and Africa (ADSP) series.
The chapter provides a comprehensive review of the role of essential oils and aromatic plants in promoting physical and mental well-being, highlighting their diverse pharmacological and therapeutic applications. It explores the chemistry of essential oils, their mechanisms of action, evidence supporting their health benefits, and their potential contributions to stress management, mood enhancement, cognitive function, and overall quality of life.
