DMU College of Pharmacy Faculty Contributes to LAU Residency Showcase in Lebanon

Dubai Medical University (DMU) – College of Pharmacy highlights the international academic engagement of Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Critical Care Clinical Pharmacist, who was recently invited as a panelist at the Residency Showcase & Career Strategy event organized by the Lebanese American University (LAU) School of Pharmacy.

The event, held at LAU, brought together PharmD students, residents, alumni, and faculty to discuss the evolving landscape of pharmacy residency training and its impact on career development. Dr. El Ouweini participated in the Alumni Panel, moderated by Dr. Mira El Masri, where he shared insights from his professional journey and highlighted the importance of advanced pharmacy training.

Drawing on his diverse experience across Lebanon and the UAE, Dr. El Ouweini reflected on his path from BPharm training in Syria, to completing his PharmD at LAU, a PGY-1 residency, and later a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical pharmacy research. Today, as a faculty member at DMU, he continues to advance clinical pharmacy education while establishing and expanding critical care services at DMU Hospital.

During the panel discussion, he emphasized how residency training shaped his clinical reasoning, teaching approach, and research capabilities. He also explained how Lebanon’s PGY-1 programs—designed in alignment with U.S. residency standards—equipped him with the competencies needed to practice confidently in international healthcare environments.

He noted that while the field has evolved from BPharm → PharmD → PGY-1, residency remains a “true investment” that enhances a pharmacist’s readiness for both local and global practice.

He encouraged students to embrace opportunities with clarity and ambition, reminding them that residency training builds not only clinical expertise but also leadership, communication, resilience, and teamwork.
