Dubai Medical University (DMU) is fundamentally committed to fostering an inclusive, diverse, and equitable community for all its stakeholders. The university’s mission is dedicated to driving a quality culture and structure that ensures diversity, equality & inclusion. DMU actively promotes the UAE values of tolerance and acceptance across the campus environment through various initiatives and awareness campaigns.
The institutional commitment ensures that all employees and stakeholders adhere to core values of fairness and equitable treatment, inclusiveness, collegiality, respect, integrity, honesty, and ethical behavior.
DMU ensures that all students have the right to a safe and inclusive learning environment. This commitment is formalized through specific departments dedicated to student welfare and success.
Institutional Responsibility
The mandate for promoting diversity and inclusion among students belongs to the Deanship of Student Affairs (DSA) and the elected Student Council. Deanship of Student Affairs (DSA) Role: The DSA is specifically tasked with promoting diversity and inclusion initiatives and creating a welcoming and inclusive campus environment for students from all backgrounds. Student Voice and Representation: The elected Student Council, which operates under the coordination of the DSA, plays a key role in supporting this mission by actively promoting Diversity and Inclusion and fostering an environment that provides equal opportunities for all students.
Core Principles of Student Equity
- Equal Opportunity in student admission:
- DMU operates as an equal opportunity institution that will not distinguish between race, religion, or gender when admitting and formulating an offer to an applicant.
- Freedom from Discrimination and Harassment:
- Students are legally entitled to respect in an educational environment which is free from threat, harassment, abuse, or discrimination.
- DMU strictly prohibits discrimination, non-tolerance, and hate speech.
- Any student misconduct that compromises academic integrity or community standards, including harassment or bullying, is subject to disciplinary action.
- Support for Students of Determination (SOD):
- DMU operates as an inclusive community committed to addressing the educational needs of its Students of Determination (SOD) on campus.
- Students requiring support must submit an official medical report of their diagnosis.
- Appropriate accommodation is provided on campus depending on the students’ educational needs to support them in achieving their goals.
- Holistic Wellbeing:
- The DSA provides holistic support focusing on students’ physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. This support is aimed at responding to the needs of the comprehensive student population.

Institutional Responsibility
The responsibility for ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion for faculty and staff belongs to the Human Resources (HR) Unit.
DMU’s comprehensive Policy on Disability, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion applies to all job applicants and employees (including faculty, staff, researchers, and professional staff). The purpose of this HR-led policy is to create an environment that is inclusive, diverse, and equitable for all employees.

- DMU adheres to the UAE Cabinet Law of 2018 specifying equal wages and salaries for women and men who perform the same work or work of equal value.

- Inclusive Work Environment and Conduct:
- Faculty members are expected to promote and maintain a culture of equality and diversity.
- All faculty and staff are expected to treat their colleagues with dignity and respect and maintain an environment free from discrimination, and harassment.
- The DMU Code of Conduct strictly prohibits harassment, offensive behaviors, or discrimination based on protected characteristics.
- Disability and Accommodation
- The university is committed to providing reasonable accommodation to all employees of DMU with disabilities to enable them to perform their job duties. This may involve modifications to the work environment, job duties, or work schedule.
- Inclusive Professional Development
- DMU emphasizes that the importance of diversity and inclusivity must be emphasized in all professional development events.
