Message from the Dean

The College of Medicine at Dubai Medical University proudly stands as the first private medical college in the United Arab Emirates to award a degree in Medicine and Surgery. Established through the vision of Haj Saeed Lootah, the College was founded on strong Islamic values and a commitment to providing women in the UAE with the opportunity to pursue medical education locally. This pioneering vision has empowered generations of graduates to serve their communities and nation with knowledge, confidence, compassion, and purpose.

Today, the College continues to build on this distinguished legacy by offering innovative, future-focused academic programs within a values-driven and supportive learning environment. Its curricula are continuously reviewed and enhanced in alignment with international standards and best practices in medical and health professions education. This ensures that all programs remain academically rigorous, professionally relevant, and responsive to the evolving needs of healthcare systems and society.

Beginning in Fall 2025, the College introduces a restructured, competency-based 2+4 Doctor of Medicine curriculum. The first two years focus on general education and the development of foundational knowledge, communication skills, critical thinking, and professional attributes. These are followed by two years of integrated biomedical and clinical sciences and two years of immersive clinical clerkships. Through this progressive structure, students develop the knowledge, skills, behaviours, and clinical competencies required for safe, ethical, compassionate, and patient-centred medical practice.

In addition to the six-year Doctor of Medicine pathway, the College offers a four-year Graduate Entry Doctor of Medicine pathway for qualified degree holders. This pathway enables eligible applicants to enter directly into the advanced stages of medical education. Graduates of relevant health sciences programs may also be eligible to join the Doctor of Medicine program in Year 3, promoting academic mobility, interdisciplinary progression, and flexible entry into the medical profession. Both pathways are globally benchmarked and designed to prepare clinically competent, scientifically informed, ethically grounded, and socially accountable physicians.

The Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences is a forward-looking undergraduate degree aligned with the UAE Professional Qualification Framework. The program equips students with a strong foundation in biomedical sciences, laboratory practice, scientific inquiry, critical thinking, research, innovation, and problem-solving. It prepares graduates for national and international professional certifications and opens diverse career pathways in laboratory medicine, biomedical research, biotechnology, diagnostics, healthcare, and the wider life sciences sector. Graduates may also pursue postgraduate education, research careers, entrepreneurship, and leadership roles across healthcare and scientific institutions.

To strengthen educational excellence and academic leadership within the healthcare professions, the College offers postgraduate qualifications in health professions education, including the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education and the Master of Science in Health Professions Education. These programs are designed for healthcare professionals seeking to advance their roles as educators, curriculum developers, assessment specialists, educational researchers, mentors, and academic leaders. Through the integration of contemporary educational theory, evidence-based teaching, curriculum design, assessment, leadership, and scholarship, graduates are prepared to enhance the quality of education and professional development across healthcare institutions.

The College also offers the Postgraduate Diploma in Global & Digital Public Health Leadership and the Master of Global & Digital Public Health Leadership. These innovative postgraduate programs prepare professionals to respond to complex public health challenges in an increasingly interconnected, data-driven, and digitally enabled world.

The programs integrate global health, public health leadership, digital transformation, health technologies, health informatics, data-informed decision-making, policy development, strategic management, innovation, and health systems strengthening. The Postgraduate Diploma provides a focused and professionally relevant foundation for individuals seeking to strengthen their knowledge and leadership capabilities in global and digital public health. The master’s degree offers advanced academic and professional preparation for strategic, research-informed, and senior leadership roles.

Graduates of these programs are equipped to lead public health initiatives, influence health policy, manage digital health transformation, apply emerging technologies responsibly, and support the development of resilient, equitable, sustainable, and responsive health systems at national, regional, and international levels.

Beyond academic excellence, the College is committed to nurturing a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging student experience. Through an active student union and a wide range of scientific, cultural, social, community service, leadership, and sports initiatives, students develop valuable personal and professional skills, build lifelong relationships, and contribute meaningfully to the wider community.

The College also promotes a culture of professionalism, innovation, collaboration, social responsibility, and lifelong learning. Students are encouraged to participate in research, community engagement, interdisciplinary activities, and leadership opportunities that enrich their educational journey and prepare them to make a positive impact in healthcare and society.

We invite aspiring students, healthcare professionals, educators, researchers, and future leaders to join the College of Medicine at Dubai Medical University, where tradition meets innovation and education becomes a transformative pathway to service, discovery, professional excellence, leadership, and lasting societal impact.
