The Bachelor of Science in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (BS-ASLP) at Dubai Medical University is a four-year program designed to prepare professionals capable of assessing, diagnosing, and supporting individuals with speech, language, hearing, and swallowing disorders across the lifespan. The program integrates biomedical sciences, communication sciences, and clinical training to develop graduates who can contribute effectively to multidisciplinary healthcare and rehabilitation teams.
During the first two years, students build a strong scientific and academic foundation through courses in biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, pathology, and research methods. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of communication disorders, linguistics and phonetics, psychology, and language development, providing the essential knowledge required to understand speech, hearing, and human communication.
In Year 3, the curriculum progresses to specialized topics in speech-language pathology and audiology, including neuroscience of communication, voice and fluency disorders, motor speech disorders, school-age language disorders, bilingualism, hearing assessment, pediatric audiology, auditory processing disorders, and swallowing disorders. Laboratory sessions and applied training strengthen diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills.
The final year focuses on intensive supervised clinical practicum in both speech-language pathology and audiology, allowing students to apply assessment and intervention techniques in real clinical settings. The program concludes with a research project that develops analytical and evidence-based practice skills, preparing graduates for professional practice and further specialization in communication health sciences.
