On 23 May 2026, the College of Pharmacy at Dubai Medical University (DMU) made a strong and impactful showing at MedEngineers 2026, a landmark healthcare innovation festival hosted by MedHack Global at the American University of Sharjah. The event brought together students, healthcare professionals, engineers, innovators, and members of the public from across the UAE, creating a vibrant platform for collaboration, creativity, and the future of healthcare. DMU was represented by three active pharmacy student clubs \u2014 the DMU-IVPN Student Club, the UAE Pharmacy Students Federation \u2013 DMU chapter (UPSF-DMU), and the Integrative Medicine Society (IMS) \u2014 alongside students who competed in the event’s flagship Hackathon competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MedEngineers 2026 was designed to bridge the healthcare and engineering disciplines, bringing university clubs and student societies together from institutions across the UAE to set up interactive booths, exchange ideas, and showcase student-led projects. The festival simultaneously hosted a competitive Hackathon where multidisciplinary teams of medical and engineering students worked together to design innovative solutions to real-world healthcare challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event drew participation from a diverse range of universities, including Gulf Medical University (GMU), UAE University (UAEU), Ajman University (AU), and many others, creating rich networking opportunities and meaningful dialogue about the future of healthcare across disciplines and institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DMU-IVPN Student Club, supervised by Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, represented DMU with an engaging and interactive booth, introducing visitors to the goals and initiatives of the club as well as those of the Global IVPN Network, which aims to empower healthcare professionals worldwide. The booth featured several hands-on activities designed to stimulate thinking around clinical pharmacy and healthcare technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the popular “Guess the Drug” activity, participants were challenged to identify commonly used medications based on clinical scenarios. The “You Are the Pharmacist” activity invited visitors to step into a pharmacist’s role and make quick clinical decisions based on patient-specific situations. A third activity invited participants to identify healthcare technologies from provided clues \u2014 offering valuable insight into the critical importance of informatics and digital tools in modern healthcare delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Integrative Medicine Society (IMS), supervised by Dr. Naglaa Saad and Eng. Hessa Lootah, captivated visitors with a booth that elegantly blended traditional healing with modern innovation. Attendees were introduced to natural therapeutic approaches and traditional healing practices through interactive activities including a “Myth or Fact” game about medicinal herbs and a “Smell and Guess” challenge. Visitors also had the unique opportunity to create personalized herbal tea blends using peppermint, chamomile, and lavender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A standout highlight at the IMS booth was Layla, the society’s AI-powered Integrative Medicine Assistant, which answered visitors’ questions in real time and demonstrated how technology can be harnessed to advance health education. The booth also showcased three exciting student-developed projects \u2014 EaseHer, NeuroBoost, and AyurJelly \u2014 exemplifying the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of DMU students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UAE Pharmacy Students Federation \u2013 DMU Chapter (UPSF-DMU), supervised by Dr. Yasmein Yasser, also set up a vibrant interactive booth at MedEngineers 2026, engaging visitors through crossword puzzles, medication-matching exercises, clinical case scenarios, and quiz-style questions. Medical-themed prizes and rewards kept the atmosphere lively and educational, drawing visitors of all ages \u2014 from school students and parents to practicing healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through these interactions, UPSF-DMU representatives had the opportunity to discuss DMU’s programs, career pathways in pharmacy, and the value of student involvement in professional and community activities \u2014 helping to raise the profile of the pharmacy profession among a broad public audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the highlights of DMU’s participation was the outstanding performance of pharmacy student Nabiha Sadick Batcha in the MedEngineers Hackathon. Competing as part of a multidisciplinary team, Nabiha collaborated with her colleagues Nimrah Ahmer Afaq and Shams Haider from DMU’s College of Medicine, alongside Aysha Naaman AlKaabi, an engineering student from UAE University (UAEU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their innovative project, Smart Heal Cast, earned the team second place in the Hackathon competition. The ten finalist teams pitched their ideas to a panel of judges, with audience votes also factored into the final results. The collaborative achievement stands as a testament to the power of interdisciplinary teamwork \u2014 uniting pharmacy, medicine, and engineering expertise to address real healthcare challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
